I think every other gun writer on the internet has written about this before, so now it's my turn.
I found a great, well-written post about something I believe needs a major re-think by well meaning but ultimately short-sighted individuals in our community.
This is something that has roots in logical thought, but has been dragged into the realm of... well you'll see.
This one really grinds my gears. I've heard it all my life, and from people who should know better. I remember my dad saying this when I was younger, and I heard Jocko Willink say it on a recent podcast. Am I missing something? Let's look at this critically: "I'd rather be lucky than good." The speaker … Continue reading Stupid Sayings: “I’d Rather be Lucky Than Good”
I really, really, hate it when I hear or see someone say that. Not dislike, literal hatred. I'm no lawyer (nor do I ply one on TV), but even I can see that being quoted as saying "I wish someone would give me a reason to kill them" is a bad idea. It's hard to imagine … Continue reading Stupid Sayings: “I Wish a MF’er would!”
This phrase doesn't come around too often, usually only when someone is discussing a new cartridge from an ammo manufacturer, or a wildcat they are contemplating. (a grain is 1/7000th of a pound) Momentum = Mass*velocity, and is measured in pound-mass-feet per second Knockdown Power = Fantasy, … Continue reading Kinetic Energy, Momentum, & Knockdown Power
People who say this are hypocrites. They may be good people, they may mean well, but as they speak or type those words, they are hypocrites. For your statement to be factually true, your definition of the words in that sentence have to change mid-sentence! A person who uses different definitions of a word interchangeably … Continue reading Stupid Sayings, “Good Enough Isn’t Good Enough”
"It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission". A phrase I've heard quite a few times, but it never really sat well with me. I did some thinking, and I've come to the opinion that it's a stupid saying. I did a quick google search on the term and learned that it was coined … Continue reading Stupid Sayings: “It’s easier to ask forgiveness…”
