[Quick Shots] Horny Toad by Coop Ale Works

My quest for the perfect warm weather beer soldiers onward, much like the namesake of this ale. Endlessly wandering the sun-baked wastes, looking for a bite here or there. Maybe not quite that dramatic, but you get the point.

The Horny Toad by Coop Ale Works is actually my first foray into blonde ales, but it won’t be my last. This beer is what I would call a good segway for American lager or light lager drinkers (Bud Light, Coors, etc.) to start getting into more serious beers. Taking a Keystone light enjoyer and handing them an imperial stout is like giving a .44 mag to someone who’s only ever shot .380’s. There are lots of steps between here and t here, and Horny Toad is a good first one.

Horny Toad is a nice pale gold color and not overly carbonated. It has a easy, mellow beer-y taste to it. The can states it has and IBU value of 25, which isn’t very bitter. Compared to a Coors Light it’s strong, but its much easier than most craft beer styles. At an ABV of 5.3% it’s a little strong to be my perfect hot weather beer, though. I’d say that this would be a good option for hanging with friends, watching a game or watching one of you unsuccessfully work on their car or try some home gunsmithing.

Overall, its good all-around. Not overly strong in flavor, not fruity, pretty standard ABV. I give it 7/10, will drink again.
