Almost hard to believe we’re already halfway through 2020. As weird as this year has been, it would be dishonest not to hold myself accountable to the goals I set for myself this year. So, let’s take at look at my progress so far…
- Shoot at Least Once a Week
Verdict: PASS. I’m not sure that I’ve averaged one range trip every week, but I’ve shot a lot more this year already than I did last year.
2. Dry Fire at Least Three times a Week
Verdict: FAIL I’ve done maybe 3 real dry fire sessions so far this year, and two of them were prepping for my first match with the Hi Power (cough video here cough). Definitely going to try and rectify that by the end of the year.
3. Try to Average Two Shooting Matches a Month
Verdict: Pass? I was on course to shoot two per month before COVID ground the shooting sports to a halt. I had shot 5 matches by the end of February, and I’ve already shot 2 in May. So if you only count the months I actually could shoot matches I’m ahead. I’m fairly confident I’ll clear 24 matches by the end of the year and make this whole discussion academic
4. Make More Time to NOT Work
Verdict: Again, Pass? I’ve been working five or six days a week all year, and due a position change at my job I haven’t been able to take weekends off like I planned. The flip side of that is due to restrictions placed on restaurants during the quarantine I have been working fewer hours per day. Due to this I’ve had time to rekindle my love of Project: Reality and make a lot of new friends through that game. I’ve also managed to get myself on what could be called a more normal sleep schedule which has been beneficial to my mental health. I’m calling this one a win for now.
5. Work on Fitness/Weight Loss
Verdict: lol FAIL. I’ve put almost no effort into this, apart from going on walks occasionally (before EVERYONE started doing it in quarantine). Going to try and focus on this for the second half of 2020 as well.
6. Finish My Hurricane Prep
Verdict: In progress. I had started working on having some food, water, and ammo stockpiled. The whole corona craze made me realize that I was pretty unprepared in general, and with toilet paper in particular. Still working on slowly building up my supplies but at least this one is in progress as opposed to a total fail.
7. Keep a Journal
Verdict: PASS. This is the one I think I am most proud of. I have written something down every day so far this year. At this point the document in my Google drive is over 50 pages long. At the end of the year I plan to print it out and start over.
I still have a lot to work on for the second half of this year, but I think I’ve made some good progress so far this in spite of the COVID panic. Oh I also forgot about Resolution #8: Beat the Iceman at STEELMAGEDDON Verdict: PASS! Not to put too fine a point on it, but I did win our annual grudge match for the 3rd year in a row.
